Our youth mission trip to Arecibo, Puerto Rico, in July was a transformative experience. Twelve members of our church group were split into two groups to serve at different locations. One group, led by John Tomas, went to a church to help clean up, paint the building and then touch up the landscaping. This is work done after a church camp for children held in the previous weeks. The second group, led by Beth Horsager, spent time going to a Teen Challenge location where ex-convicts stay to turn their lives around by focusing on becoming a better person by building a relationship with Christ.
The relationships here are built by working odd jobs, playing games and sharing stories.
Both groups are joined by members from the other two church groups from Indiana and North Carolina who are also serving their mission week. After we volunteer in the day, we pack into our vans and drive back to our Youth Works site, our home for the week. Each day we share what we did in a large group time, and talk to the other students of the two churches about what is going on at other sites, witnessing Christ together. In the evening, each church group has its own worship time. Together, the Nativity youth pray and sing songs. Cole Grotting brought his guitar, the concrete walls and ceiling offer excellent acoustics. We sang like angels!
Thank you Nativity for providing this opportunity and the many others that you support for our youth each year
