Homelessness Outreach Team

The Nativity Community has a “Heart” for homelessness. The Homelessness Community Outreach Team recognizes and responds to the reality that many people are unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe and adequate housing. The purpose of this team is to increase awareness among our community on issues around homelessness and affordable housing as well as provide opportunities for Nativity members to get involved in hands on action and education events.

Partnerships that this team engages with include People Serving People (serving homeless families), Lutheran Social Service Metro Homeless Youth (serving homeless teens) and the Dignity Center (serving homeless adults).

If you would like to join us in our effort to combat homelessness and change the world, fill out the form below and the Facilitator of Community Engagement will contact you to follow up. Thank you.

People Serving People is the largest and most comprehensive family homeless shelter in Minnesota. 60% of the guests are children averaging the age of 6.
This Mission Partner provides a variety of volunteer opportunities to the Nativity Community. In addition to providing direct service volunteering, Nativity members donate funds and give baby gifts at the Annual People Serving People baby shower.

The LSS Metro Homeless Youth Programs offer a continuum of holistic services to runaway, homeless and street dependent youth ages 16-21 and their children in the Twin Cities Metro Area.

Our Nativity Community has been involved with LSS Metro Homeless Youth for the past 5 years ….making and delivering weekly and holiday meals, painting ,providing appliances and porch furniture for Safe House ( emergency shelter for youth). We also collect household goods for Rezek House (2-year transitional living program for homeless youth).

The Dignity Center is an ecumenical outreach of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. They deliver a program that brings support, opportunity, and resources to people in transition as they regain stability and move toward self sufficiency.

The Nativity Community has worked very effectively with this Mission Partner for more than 8 years…..providing volunteers and funding. The Dignity Center Director has participated at Nativity in a variety of educational events and our youth groups have enjoyed visiting the Dignity Center and learning from participants.
