Upcoming Facilitated Zoom Discussion:

The Racial Equity and Justice Ministry team (REJM) is sharing a series of YouTube videos illuminating white U.S. history and the legacy of white supremacy. The series is produced by Jim Stewart, a retired American History Professor from Macalaster College. The goal of these videos is not to impose guilt but to strengthen our understanding of white U.S. history and what we can do about white supremacy today.

Each video talks about an important event or symbol that happened between 1865-1969 and how important it is for white people to show up if we want change to happen. Two significant times in our history when white people showed up was the Abolitionist Movement before, during, and after the Civil War and during the Civil Rights movement in the 1950s and 60s.

The problem then, according to Jim Stewart, is that white people showed up, backlash happened, and good things stopped happening. He argues we are at another point in our history when white people are showing up in response to the murder of George Floyd and other incidents since.
