Hunger Outreach Team

The Hunger Community Outreach Team recognizes and responds to the reality that many people are unable to acquire sufficient food to meet basic nutritional needs. This team increases awareness and understanding of hunger and food security in our community.

This Mission Partner is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs, and condition that allow hunger and poverty to persist, the organization provides help and opportunity far beyond the communities where we live.

Nativity volunteers assist the Nativity Community in a letter writing campaign and contacting congressional representatives to influence decisions relating to hunger. In 2017 Nativity members drafted and mailed more than 150 letters which resulted in a significant impact on persons who are hungry.

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. The organization is dedicated to providing nutritious meals to children worldwide.

Nativity families and individuals donate to fund the meal ingredients and hand-pack the meals. In 2018 over 50 persons gathered to pack the meals. These meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world where kids are fed and lives are saved.

Meals on Wheels programs have existed in the Twin Cities for over 40 years providing nutritious home-delivered meals and a friendly visit from a volunteer to seniors and persons with disabilities.

Nativity Lutheran Church has provided funding and volunteer drivers to Meals on Wheels for more than 10 years.

  • Laura Oksnevad,

The Salvation Army Central Workshop and Service Center serves residents through a wide variety of basic needs programs including a food shelf. Our Nativity Community helps with these meals by donating food and financial contributions to the NEED food shelf located in Northeast Minneapolis. Each week a volunteer delivers food collected at Nativity during the prior week.

The Little Kitchen Food Shelf just entered its tenth year. It is a no-boundaries, no restrictions food shelf serving Northeast Minneapolis and beyond…. All people are served. In addition, they stock dog and cat food to feed the companion animal of those in need.
The Nativity Community provides fresh produce from our Community garden, food donations, volunteers on a weekly basis to staff the food shelf, and financial contributions.
