Matthew 22:1-14 / Spark Bible: The Wedding Banquet
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
Do you like inviting friends to parties? How would you feel if your friends all said they were too busy to come to your party? In the Bible, Jesus tells a story about a King who planned a big party for his son’s wedding. He sent invitations but nobody came. Everyone said they were too busy. The King was mad and sad. Instead of cancelling the party, the King decided to invite anyone and everyone, even people that were not already special friends. Some people accepted the invitation and came to the wonderful party! Jesus was trying to tell us that God is like the King and is inviting all of us to follow Jesus and live with God forever! We just have to say “Yes!”
Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): When we baptize someone at Nativity, we wrap a blanket around them and we sing a song that says, “you have put on Christ”. In the party parable, one of the guests comes to the party but does not put on the special party clothes that the King offers. That guest gets kicked out of the party. What do you think it means to, “put on Christ”?
Pick activities to do together!
- Activity 1: I’m invited!: Decorate a colorful invitation for yourself. What are we invited to? Life with God forever!
Where will this be? Heaven!
What are the directions to get there? 1. Say, “Yes!” to God’s invitation 2. Love God 3. Love others
What should I bring? My heart!
Activity 2: Party Charades: Have some family fun acting out party words like: balloons, gifts, cake, hat, games, piñata, etc.
(*These activity ideas come from ministry-to-children.com)
“Dear God, thank you for inviting all of us to join you. Help us to say “yes” to your ways every time we have a choice to make. We love you, God. Amen”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Say “I invite you for a hug!“
