Spark Story Bible – The Disciples
Mark 1:16-20
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
What are things that you follow? Who do you like to follow?
Today we’re doing a little rewind to chapter 1 of Mark to when Jesus asks people to follow Him. In the story, there were people just going about their daily life. Then Jesus came along and invited them to drop what they were doing and follow Him. Do you think it was easy for them to just stop what they were doing? I do like doing that, do you? But sometimes, when God needs up to learn about His love and share it with others, it’s not always the most convenient time. Have you ever been playing and you see your sibling needing help. Is it easy to stop playing and offer help, nope! But when you do, doesn’t it make you feel so good to see them happy, yep! (Check out the “Duck Cake” episode of Bluey for a great example of this!)
Jesus called the people following Him disciples, which just simply means a follower of Jesus. How can you be a follower of Jesus this week?
Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): What are some other names you can think of for people who follow Jesus? Make a list and then Google them and learn a little bit of their meaning & history. If you got to pick which one to be called, what would it be?
Family Activity
Activity #1: Plan follow the leader! Use obstacles or even blindfolds to make it more difficult. Then talk about how it felt to lead and follow.
Activity #2: Blessing fish! Have everyone take a handful of Goldfish crackers (or any crackers you have at home) and share a blessing that following Jesus has brought them.
Pray Together
“Dear Jesus, thank you for calling me to follow you. Help me to listen for when you call and always be ready to share Your love. Amen.“
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Pretend to hook someone with a fishing pole and reel them in. Say “come follow Jesus with me!”
