Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
We have started the season of Lent. Lent is a time of repentance. A time to admit that we make mistakes. The great news is that no mistake can ever separate us from God’s love. We can ask for forgiveness and change our direction by making better choices.
In the bible reading this week, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. It’s a story about choices and how to show God’s love to others. There is a man who is traveling, some robbers who attack him, and three other people who see the hurt man. Read the story and see who chooses to help, who chooses to hurt, and who chooses to do nothing. Which person acted like a good neighbor?
Dig Deeper: Discuss these statements with your family. Do you agree or disagree?
1.) We don’t need to help people if we are super busy.
2.) If you are too afraid to help someone, you can ask a grown-up to help.
3.) Anyone can practice acts of kindness.
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Get well card: Using a folded piece of paper, a band-aid, and 2 googly eyes – make a get well card for someone. Make a cute creature on the front of the card by using the band-aid for the body, gluing on the eyes, (or draw eyes), and drawing stick arms and legs, a smile, hair, etc. (Add any details that you like. Maybe your creature needs a top hat and a cane!) If you don’t know anyone who is sick, send it to someone to say, “Hope you are well!”
Activity 2: Do Week 1 of Family Lent Activities: Use the “On Earth As In Heaven” Lent packet from you Feb At-Home Kit or download HERE to have some learning how we can bring God’s kingdom to Earth this Lenten season. Week 1 focuses on world hunger. Choose from a discussion page, a story about Mexico, making Mexican snacks, doing a craft or do them all!
Pray the Lord’s Prayer together!
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Give each a fist bump and say “You’re a good neighbor!”
