Read the Bible Together

John 6:16-24
Spark Story Bible – Walking on Water, pg 262

Talk About It!

Have you been watching the Winter Olympics? What’s one thing all the athletes need to compete in the winter sports? That’s right water! Every sport needs some form of water. Whether it’s ice or snow, they all need water to do the amazing things to go for the gold.

Can you think of stories from the Bible that uses water to do amazing things? Moses separating the Red Sed, Jesus turning water into wine, and so many more! In today’s story Jesus walks on water with is pretty WOW amazing. But even more amazing, He invited Peter to step out of the boat and walk with Him. Did he succeed? Yes at first and then he got distracted and started to sink. Did Jesus look disappointed in him and let him drown? Nope, He lifted Him back into the boat.

Do you think this story is to tell us if we believe hard enough, we too can walk on water? Not really (even though in Minnesota we can walk on frozen water several months of the year.) Jesus is trying to teach us to trust in God and if we stay focused on that we can do great things. He also is teaching us even if we fail and start to sink, God is strong enough to lift us back up. See another amazing thing to learn from water!

Digging deeper: Jesus told His friends “Do not be afraid.” What are some things that make you afraid. How can focusing on God help you through those tough times?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Will It Float: Pour some water info a bowl or pitcher and then have some fun guessing if items from around the house will float. If you have an orange, try it out. Does it float? If you peeled the orange and dropped a section in, does it float? Nope. It reminds us of our story. When we are surrounded my God like an orange we stay afloat, but when we only put part of ourselves into something we sink.

Do Not Be Afraid Obstacle Course: Make an obstacle course or just make a line on the floor with tape. Then lead each other through the course with one person blindfolded. Do you trust each other?

Pray Together

Dear God, help us to trust you to lead us and calm our fears everyday. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Make a “T” with your arms and body, then say “Trust in God!”
