Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Make a light (candle, flashlight, light switch) and sing “This Little Light of Mine”

Sing Together: Thank You, God: Name three things you are thankful for today.

Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today?

Read the Bible Together

John 6:5-13
The story appears in all 4 Gospels, but only John mentions the boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish.
Spark Story Bible – Jesus Feeds 5000, pg 344

Talk About It!

What kind of bread do you like? What kind do you dislike? Do you like fish? If you were to bring a picnic lunch like the boy in this story, what would you pack?

Even though I have heard this story many times, new things catch my attention every time I hear it. This time it is Jesus’ command, “You give them something to eat.” What stands out to you in this story? What do you like about this story? Use open-ended questions like these to get your family talking about the amazing love of Jesus.

Digging deeper: “You give them something to eat.” What did Jesus mean? Did he expect his disciples to perform a miracle? We can’t perform a miracle like Jesus did, but we can certainly do our part to help feed the hungry. What have you done in the past to help feed the hungry? What could you commit to doing in the future? Your acts of love are important, no matter how big or small.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

(Gold)fish and Bread: Pile some goldfish (more than 2) and small pieces of bread (more than 5) onto a plate. Have your child use tongs to move 2 goldfish and 5 pieces of bread to another plate (or paper labeled with a fish column and a bread column). Challenge yourself and your older children to try this activity blindfolded. You can see Leah do this at the end of the video!

You give them something to eat Prepare a meal together. Give children age-appropriate jobs, but make sure the whole household is participating. You could also donate to your local food shelf or pack meals at Second Harvest or Feed My Starving Children.

Pray Together

Dear God, thank you for always providing what everyone need, even when it’s me that helps other.  Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Pick a snack and give part to one another, then say “God provides for everyone!”
