Summer Family Faith Formation – Aug 1

Join us each week as a family to celebrate the fun of summer with some of the BIG stories of the Bible!

Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!

Welcome Videos

Start by picking a Welcome Video from Miss Renee

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: In August we are celebrating water! Find a light that shines in the water (a glow stick or floating candle, or even a flashlight behind a cup of water) and say “Your light shines in the darkness.”

Sing Together: I’ve Got Peace Like a River

Make an Offering: How can you be an offering this week?

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Watch the Holy Moly Video: The Holy Moly videos series from Spark takes the essentials of the Bible story, adds a bit of humor, and subtracts a bit of the scariness. The result is a video suitable for all ages. Enjoy today’s unique re-telling of John the Baptist.

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Do you like playing with water? What are some of your favorite things to do with water? How else is water important to us?

Did you know that water was one of the first things God created, even before light! That’s how special water is to God. He knows that it gives us life, so much so that our bodies are made up of 60% of water! So in August we are going to celebrate some fun ways Jesus uses water in the Bible.

This week we celebrate water with the story of Jesus’ baptism. Do you remember yours? Most likely not because you probably were a baby. But Jesus was a grown up and was baptized in a river by His cousin John. How does that compare to your baptism? Well when Jesus was baptized something amazing happened. The heavens opened up and God spoke “this is my Beloved Child with Whom I am well please.” Did God speak at your baptism? Not quite in the same way, but all his people, your family, friends and community, spoke for Him saying that you are a beloved child and are pleased to surround you with His love. Take some time to talk about all of your baptisms, pull out pictures and share about what a special day it was.

Dig Deeper: What came down from heaven after God’s voice spoke? That’s right a dove. What do doves symbolize in the Bible? That’s right peace. God wanted people to know His Beloved Son came to bring peace. What are some other things different birds symbolize? Maybe there’s something special in your own family. Here’s a fun website to look up some common ones: https://www.worldbirds.org/bird-symbolism/

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity: Remember Your Baptist: Find some water to have fun with (splash pad, water balloons, squirt bottles). Then ask each other these 3 questions:

  1. 1. Do you believe that God loves you so very much?
  2. 2. Do you love to share God’s love with everyone?
  3. 3. Do you know your family, friends and community will help you grow in God’s love?

When you answer YES! splash or squirt water on each other (and try not to cry like babies sometimes do at baptisms :P)

Pray Together

“Dear God, give us peace like a river, joy like a fountain and love like an ocean! Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Splash or squirt each other with water again and say “You are a beloved child of God!”
