Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
What kinds of things go up? Do you like going up? What is the highest height you’ve been?
After Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to his disciples for a period of 40 days. When the 40 days were over, it was time for Jesus to return to God in Heaven. How do you feel when someone you love leaves? How did the disciples feel when Jesus left?
Dig Deeper: Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he told his disciples that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit, and that they were to be Jesus’ witnesses. What does it mean to be a witness? Does that still apply today? How?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Ascension Cup and Ribbon For this craft, you will need: glue, scissors, white crayon, blue cup, ribbon and templates for Jesus and a cloud. The cup, ribbon and templates can be found in your FF kit. If you don’t have a kit, find similar items around your house. Decorate your cup with clouds, cut out the templates, poke a small hole in the top of the cup, and pass the ribbon through. Glue Jesus on part of the ribbon below the cup. Glue the cloud on part of the ribbon above the cup. You can pull on the cloud to make Jesus ascend and be hidden by a cloud!
Activity 2: Watch the Clouds Take some time to look at the clouds together. What shapes and figures do you see? Talk about what it must have been like to watch Jesus ascend into the clouds.
Pray Together
“Dear God, Thank you for sending us your only Son, Jesus. Bless us on this Ascension Day as we celebrate Jesus’ return to Heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Crouch down together and as you rise up together says, “You’re filled up up up with God’s love!”
