Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Jesus spent His whole life teaching us how to love God and love others. What are some ways you remember Jesus teaching us how to love? Did you know the thing Jesus wanted you to know most was that God love you. I mean, every single silly, sweet, unique part of you, even the parts of you that get you into trouble sometime. Jesus wanted most for you to know that God will never stop loving you, ever, like never ever ever. And that is why today is called “Good” Friday. Jesus made sure this would be true forever, even for us today. So go around and ask everyone in your family and make sure everyone knows that God loves them so very much.

(For families with littles, it’s ok to not talk about Jesus’ death just yet. Focus on Jesus teaching us to love and knowing that God loves us and making today a day to celebrate that. When they are old enough to understand the concept of death talk about it as a conversation, let them ask questions, don’t worry about having all the answers, and remember the story has a happy ending, Easter is coming.)

Dig Deeper: Do you know how Jesus made sure we always have God’s love? That’s right, He paid the price for our sins on the cross. That may be a hard concept even for a grown up, but talk a little bit about what that might mean. The Spark Good Friday Family Activities is a very good guide and has great activity suggestions. You can download it HERE.

Family Activity

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1: Give Jesus a “Rest”: use your cardboard tote box (or any box) to act out Jesus “resting” 3 days in the tomb by taking a light (we used a led candle) and placing it under the box and leaving it there until Easter morning. We’ll be doing something fun with it during Easter Family Worship!

Activity 2: Jesus Paid It All Craft:  For older kiddos, to symbolize Jesus paying the price for our sins, get a piece of paper and draw a large cross on it. Then find enough pennies to cover the whole cross and glue them to it. Then look us John 3:16 to see what Jesus bought for us on that cross.

Pray Together

Say the Lord’s Prayer together!

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Trace the sign of the cross on each other’s forehead and say “God loves you and God forgives you”
