Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Turn on a lamp or flick on a light switch and say “Let there be light! And God said it was good!”

Sing Together: “Ho Ho Ho Hosanna”
Ho ho ho hosanna
Ha ha hallelujah
He He He He saved me
I’ve got the joy of the Lord

Make an Offering: How can you be an offering this week?

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Frolic Bible “Abraham and Sarah”
Spark Story Bible “Abraham and Sarah’s Visitors” pg 38
Genesis 18:1-15 and 21:1-7

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Have you ever been surprised? Was it a good surprise or a not-so-good surprise? How did you feel? When something unexpected happens, it’s ok to have different feelings. Honor your feelings and trust that God will be with you and love you no matter what.

When the three visitors told Sarah that she was to become a mother, Sarah laughed. She was too old to have a baby. The visitors reminded Sarah that nothing is impossible with God. When Sarah’s baby was born the following year, she named him Isaac, which means “laughter.” Talk about what it was like welcoming a child into your family. What made you laugh?

Dig Deeper: Sarah’s surprising news made her laugh. Abraham (in Genesis 17) also laughed so hard that he fell on his face! Why did they laugh so hard? How do their reactions compare to Mary’s reaction when she found out that she would give birth to Jesus? You can read Luke 1:26-38 if you’re not sure. Mary’s good news troubled her at first. When someone finds out they are going to have a baby, they can have many different feelings, sometimes all at the same time.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity: Balloon (or Cup) of Surprises Make a list of some good surprises (party, a bouquet of flowers) and not-so-good surprises (cancelled plans, a flat tire). Write each surprise on a small slip of paper and put one slip of paper into a balloon before you blow it up and tie it. Ask someone to pop the balloon. Watch their reaction. Then ask them how they would react to the surprise inside the balloon. Alternatively, you could put the slips of paper into a cup and draw surprises one at a time.

Activity: Surprise Someone! Surprise your grown-up with a picture you draw just for them or by helping with a chore you normally don’t do. Surprise a sibling by sharing a toy you don’t normally share. Surprise a neighbor with a small bouquet or tell them about Sarah and Abraham’s surprise.

Activity: What Does You Mean? Talk about why your grown ups picked your name. Then look up what it means: https://www.familyeducation.com/baby-names

Pray Together

Dear God, Thank you for surprises and laughter. I trust that you know what is best for me. I love you, God. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Give each other a hug and say or say to each other “Be loved, be kind, be you!”
