Fall Family Faith Formation – Oct 24

Join us each week as a family to celebrate the fun of fall with some of the BIG stories of the Bible!

Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!

Welcome Videos

Start with a Welcome Video from Miss Leah

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Turn on a lamp or flick on a light switch and say “Let there be light! And God said it was good!”

Sing Together: Sing a favorite lullaby or bedtime song and talk about why it’s special to you.

Make an Offering: How can you be an offering this week?

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Spark Story Bible “David is Chosen” pg 126 / 1 Samuel 16:1-13
OR watch the Holy Moly Video

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

What makes a good ruler? Do you think a little boy who takes care of sheep would be a good king? Do you think you could be a ruler/president/leader? Why or why not?

Download and print these fun family activities to go along with this weeks story!

Dig Deeper: Have you ever heard the expression, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? What does this mean? Look up 1 Samuel 16:7. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. How are these statements related?

David and Jesus were both unlikely kings. What other similarities can you find between the story of David and the story of Jesus?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1: Anoint with oil When God chooses David to be king, Samuel puts oil on David’s head to anoint him. When we are baptized, the pastor puts a small amount of oil on our heads and makes the sign of the cross. You can anoint one another with a small amount of olive oil on your thumb or finger. Say, “You are a beloved child of God.”

Activity 2: Looking outside and inside Look in a mirror with your child. Point out what you see on the outside (“you have brown hair,” “you have freckles on your nose”). Then tell your child that you love what you see inside them, too (“you are a good friend,” “you are inclusive,” “you are brave,” etc.).

Pray Together

“Dear God, you look at what is on the inside. Help me to have a loving, faithful heart. Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Use the blessing in the activities “You are a beloved child of God”
