Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Which food do you not like? Like practically everything else this year, Thanksgiving will probably be a little different than the way you’re used to celebrating it. How are you making it special?

In today’s story God’s people are a little sad because things are not quite like they’re used to as well. Jeremiah tries to cheer them up by sharing stories of the good ol’ days of the best king ever, King David. Does looking at old pictures and sharing old stories cheer you up?

Then he tries to give them hope by saying an even better king is coming, someone who will teach them to bring peace on earth. Any ideas who that king was? (Hint, his birthday is on December 25th) Does remembering Jesus give you hope? Does looking forward to Christmas give you hope? Jesus taught if we appreciated what we had and looked for ways to share who we are with others it can bring peace. That feels like just the kind of message we need this Thanksgiving.

Dig Deeper: Jeremiah was a prophet. Prophets receive messages from God, and then they share those messages with others. Their language isn’t always easy to understand. What do you do when you have trouble understanding something? Who can help? Jeremiah brings a message of hope to the people of Israel and Judah. What is it?

What gives you hope during these challenging times? What are your hopes for this Thanksgiving? What are your hopes for next Thanksgiving? Talk about this with your family.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1 – Thanksgiving Placemat Use the Thanksgiving placemat from your Faith Formation kit or print one. Color it how you like best. Write things that you are grateful for on the leaves.

Activity 2 – Good Ol’ Thanksgivings: Look up photos from previous Thanksgiving celebrations, see how far back you can go. Find ways to share those with your extended families and ask each other to share stories. Trust me this will warm your hearts!

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you that being thankful and saying thank you brings the simple peace that we need in these tough times. I love you God. Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Give each other HUGE bear hugs and say “I’m so thankful God gave me you!”
