Start with a Welcome Video from Miss Karla
Worship Together
Share in some faith practices of worship together!
Shine a Light: Light two Advent candles today. One for HOPE and one for PEACE.
(Little ones may enjoy this rhyme)
Little light, little light number one. Family gives us HOPE as we begin our advent fun.
Little light, little light number two. God’s presence gives us PEACE in all we do.
Sing Together: Advent Song
Sing the Emmanuel song from the video or another song that your family knows, like “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”.
Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today? Grades 1-4 are collecting offerings to go to ELCA Good Gifts. We like to pick out animals for long lasting food stability. Anyone can donate at goodgifts.elca.org
Read the Bible Together
Spark Story Bible – Angels Visit pg 186
Matthew 1: 18-25
Talk About It!
This week in Advent we are talking about peace. Thinking about peace as just an absence of conflict is a little hard for children to understand. It’s easier to discuss and practice the actions that create peace: a smile, listening carefully to someone, a retreat to a special place, a pause to breathe deeply, etc. What actions bring you and your family peace?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity CRAFT: Emmanuel pinwheel: Taking deep breaths and reciting comforting words can help us experience peace. Take some time to breathe deeply and say “Emmanuel. God is with me.” and enjoy the pinwheels from your Advent kit! Don’t have a pinwheel? Grab a tissue and have fun blowing it around the room. See how long you can keep it in the air!
Peace plate: Using a paper plate, painters tape, and any kind of paint or markers, create a peace symbol.
Pray Together
“Dear God, sometimes we feel nervous or afraid when unexpected things happen. Help us remember that your promises bring us peace. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Make the peace sign say “Peace be with you!”
