Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Make a light (candle, flashlight, light switch) and sing “This Little Light of Mine”

Sing Together: We Three Kings or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today? Grades 1-4 are collecting offerings to go to ELCA Good Gifts. We like to pick out animals for long lasting food stability. Anyone can donate at goodgifts.elca.org

Read the Bible Together

Matthew 2:1-12
Spark Story Bible – The Wisemen pg. 204

Talk About It!

The season of Advent (coming) is over. The twelve days of Christmas are done. Epiphany has begun. The time when we celebrate God’s light showing us the way to Jesus, just like the Wisemen followed the star. Epiphany means to “show” or “reveal”. Do you think light is important? What would it be like if we were always in the dark?
Digging deeper: Did you notice in the reading that it said the Wisemen found the child at the house, not the baby in a stable. That makes sense because they came from another land. It probably took them a long time to arrive and Mary and Joseph didn’t actually live in Bethlehem. They were from Nazareth. It doesn’t matter so much when they found him, but it is important that they were from another land. The Old Testament stories are mostly about God’s relationship with the Israelites, but the star also invited people from other countries to come and meet Jesus. Jesus is for everyone!

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Singing star: Make a large paper star and write these words that match the Twinkle, Twinkle tune so you can sing about the Wisemen.  “Twinkle, twinkle, special star. Wisemen saw you from afar. Followed you to find the King. Gifts for Jesus did they bring. Twinkle, twinkle, special star. Wisemen saw you from afar.”

Sharpie and shiny: Use permanent markers to draw stars or a crown on tin foil. Cut it out and wear you crown to be one of the three kings or decorate your house with shiny stars. (Use paper or cardboard on the back if you want it to be stronger.)

Pray Together

Dear God, thank you for giving us light so we don’t have to live in the dark. Your love shines down on us all the time. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Twinkle you fingers like a star over each other’s heads, then say “You shine God’s light!”
