Summer Family Faith Formation – June 20

Join us each week as a family to celebrate the fun of summer with some of the BIG stories of the Bible!

Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!

Welcome Videos

Start by picking a Welcome Video from Miss Karla for Grades 1-4
or Miss Renee for littles-Kindergartners or watch both!

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle or find a flashlight to remind yourselves that Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus is with you, and Jesus is in you. Let your light shine!

Sing Together: (Tune sounds like “Jesus Loves Me”) Jonah, Jonah, have you heard? Said the Lord, “Go preach my word.” Jonah said, “That’s not for me.” Took a ship and went to sea.
Hey, Jonah, Jonah! Hey, Jonah, Jonah! Hey, Jonah, Jonah! You should obey the Lord.

Sometimes we may disobey, but God forgives us when we pray. Even if we try to hide, God will still be on our side!
God will forgive us! God will forgive us! God will forgive us! When we ask Him to.

Make an Offering: How can you be an offering this week?

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Watch the Holy Moly Video: The Holy Moly videos series from Spark takes the essentials of the Bible story, adds a bit of humor, and subtracts a bit of the scariness. The result is a video suitable for all ages. Enjoy today’s unique re-telling of Jonah’s  story.

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Today’s story is about Jonah. Read the story and then answer these questions. Where did God want Jonah to go? Where did Jonah go instead? What happened to the boat? How was Jonah rescued from drowning? Have you ever asked God or others for forgiveness?

Dig Deeper: God wants our help, too. It’s not very practical for us to go to Ninevah, but we can show and tell people about God’s love and forgiveness right where we are! It sounds easy, but we know it’s not. Do you ever want to avoid your work? I do. Do you feel nice and kind all the time? I don’t. That’s why the words in the song are so comforting…”Even if we try to hide, God will still be on our side! God will forgive us when we ask Him to.” We are human and we will always make some mistakes, but the power of love and forgiveness are always there for us! We just need to ask!

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Opposite Simon Says game: God asked Jonah to go to Ninevah, but he ran away in the opposite direction. Try to play “Simon Says” but do the opposite of the commands.  For example, have the leader say things like: Stand Up, Jump backwards, Put your hands together, Look at your feet, Run to a corner of the room, etc. See if the players can do the opposite. It takes a little extra brainwork!

Blind drawing: Make a simple drawing from the story- the fish, the boat, a road sign, etc. Without letting anyone see your drawing, try describing it to someone else. In other words, try to get them to draw what you drew without knowing what the picture is of. Give your best detailed instructions and see how their blind drawing turns out! (If that’s too hard, enjoy drawing and coloring fish!)

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you for forgiving Jonah and giving him a second chance. Thank you for loving us so much that we get forgiveness and second chances too! Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Use your favorite whale voice and say “God will always find you!”
