Shine a Light: We are celebrating Christmas in July! Find 4 summer-y things that light up to make an Advent Wreath. And now add a 5th light in the middle to celebrate the Jesus is “Emmanuel”, God with us at all times, not just Christmas!

What are some of your favorite things about Christmas? What are your favorite smells, tastes, sounds? What do you like to do?
Well it is 160 days until Christmas and I bet you are wondering why we are celebrating it now in the middle of summer. Christmas in July is a silly, fun tradition to help us remember one of Jesus’ nicknames: “Emmanuel.” It means “God with us.” Jesus came to bring God’s love and peace to the world not just on Christmas day but everyday. So we’re having some fun this month to remind us of that, plus its fun to sing Christmas songs in your flip flops! What’s something you do during Christmas time you could do as a family this month?
Dig Deeper: Did you know people in Australia celebrate Christmas in July too! That way they get to experience a little bit of Christmas when it’s cooler out because in December it’s summer there! See if you can find Australia on a map. And to have more fun, use the internet to look us some of the ways Aussies celebrate the holidays.
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity: Christmas Cookie Make a batch of your favorite Christmas cookies and as you’re making them, talk about ways you’ve seen “God with us” throughout the year. Make it super fun by bringing some to a neighbor and saying “Merry Christmas in July!”
Pray Together
“Dear God, help us to remember to prepare to welcome Jesus everyday, not just on Christmas! Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Put your arms around each other and sing “We wish you a merry Christmas (in July). We wish you a merry Christmas (in July). We wish you a merry Christmas (in July). And happiness all year!”
