Sing or say: Merry Christmas in July! Sing a favorite Christmas carol, like Away in a Manger or Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

Talk About It!
Do you love Christmas? Is it hard to wait a whole year until it comes again? Let’s have a little bit of Christmas in July! For most families, Christmas is full of traditions, (things we like to repeat year after year). Do you have favorite Christmas stories that you read or watch every year? Do you imitate the funny characters? Does the ending always make you happy? Do you know about the Christmas story from the Bible? Tell each other all the parts you remember.
Today’s book club story is, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. I’m reading the picture book edition, but it is also a chapter book or you can watch the movie version from 1983! It is the story of the Herdman kids. Their behavior is terrible and everyone dislikes them. They end up in the church Christmas play, but they don’t know the story! They burp the baby Jesus, think the Wise Men should bring ham instead of frankincense and myrrh, and say some pretty crazy things, but in the end they learn about God sending us love through his perfect son and the performance makes everyone think about the Christmas story in a new and special way!
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Shazam! – Draw a picture of an angel YELLING out the good news of Jesus birth!
Activity 2: Up in the tree – Jesus came for everyone! – Sometimes people really do act like the Herdmans. What does Jesus say about that? “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44. Draw a big heart. Write down the names of some people who have upset you. Then pray for them.
Pray Together
“Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to earth to teach us about love, hope, joy and peace. Help us work for peace and show love to all people. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Say to each other “Merry Christmas in July!”
