Welcome Video

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle or find a flashlight. Take turns saying, “Jesus’ light shines in me.”

Sing Together:  Sing or say: Love, Joy, Peace and Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, too. Gentleness and Self-Control, these are gifts God offers to you!

Make an Offering: How can you give an offering today? It could be time, talent, or treasure!

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Psalm 23 / Spark Story Bible The Lord Is My Shepherd

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Today we are focusing on the ninth fruit of the spirit, which is self-control. What is self-control? Is it easy to have self-control? What are some examples of times when self-control is difficult?

Dig Deeper: Stop, Breathe, Pray, Think, and Act. Sometimes we are faced with situations that may challenge us emotionally. Maybe somebody grabs something out of your hands, says something mean, or gives you bad news. Sometimes you may feel nervous about trying something new like diving under water or singing in front of a crowd. But guess what? We can practice, and we can pray! Here’s how:

    1. Stop (hold out hand). I like to close my eyes.
    2. Breathe. Take a few deep breaths in and out.
    3. Pray. Say a quick prayer like, “Please God be with me, and help me know what to do. Amen.”
  • Think. What is the problem? What feelings are you having in your body or mind because of this problem? What is the best way to resolve the problem?
  • Act. Act on the best plan. If you’re not sure what to do, then the best emotional control is to tell someone you trust, “I need help right now.”

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together with supplies you have around your house!

Activity 1: Bubbles Who doesn’t love bubbles in the summertime? Who loves popping bubbles? Get out some bubbles. See if you can watch the bubbles and resist the urge to pop them! That’s self-control! After a minute or two, go ahead and pop to your heart’s content!

Activity 2: Hand Jive to a silly song Grown-ups might remember this pattern from the movie Grease. Pat/pat, clap/clap, zig-zag hands/zig-zag hands, pound fist/pound fist, right thumb/left thumb. You can use this same pattern to a lot of songs, but here’s a fun “Fruit of the Spirit” song. Fruit of the Spirit song

Pray Together

“Dear Lord, we thank you for your fruits like star fruit and strawberries. We thank you for your fruits of the spirit like self-control. Help us to practice self-control. Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Give each other a gentle pinch and says, “You’re super fruity!”
