Read the Bible Together

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Spark Story Bible – “Love is”

Talk About It!

Talk about it: This week we are looking at what the bible says about love. How would you fill in the blank if someone said, “Love is ________?”  There are many possibilities! When Paul was writing to his friends in the early churches in Corinth, he wrote, “Love is patient. Love is kind. It is not jealous or proud. Love is not selfish or rude. Love is happy with the truth. Love never gives up.” Can you name at least three people who help teach you about being patient and kind?

Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): What about the times when you feel impatient or unkind? Are you starting to notice those negative feelings all on your own or do you need someone to tell you? Once you know that it’s happening, you can apologize or take a break, or talk to a trusted adult. And you can always pray and talk to God. The great news is that the Bible also says that love is eternal (1 Corinthians 13:8) – God will ALWAYS love us!

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together!

Activity:

Love is… paper heart chain. Using plain or printed paper, make a paper chain of heart shapes. (Use instruction video below if needed.) As you unfold your row of hearts and it gets longer and longer, write your favorite reminders of what love is on the different heart shapes.

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you for your teaching in the Bible and for the people in our lives who show us how to be loving and kind. Bless our learning. Bless our growing. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

It is still Eastertide – Say “He is Risen!” And reply “He is risen indeed! Alleluia!”
