Family Faith Formation – July 18 & 19

Holy Moly! Mary & Martha

Join us each week as a family to have fun together with some of God’s great stories. We’re starting diving into July with stories of strong Godly women!

Start by picking a welcome video from Miss Karla or Miss Renee

Worship Together

Make the sign of the cross (Touch forehead, then heart. Touch one shoulder, then the other.) As you make the cross say, “Love God, Love Neighbor”

  • If you are able, light a candle to remind yourselves that Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus is with you, and Jesus is in you. Let your light shine!

Offering

How will you make an offering today?

Sing

School Age: Try this version…  Thank you, God for giving us ears. Thank you, God for giving us ears. Thank you, God for giving us ears to listen to your word!

Sharing and Discussion

Do you get excited (or used to…) when someone came to visit? How do you help get ready? What if it was Jesus?!

Can you think of a time of year we anticipate Jesus coming?

In the story, Martha was doing all the work and she asked Jesus to tell her sister, Mary to help. Jesus said that Mary’s choice to sit and listen to his teaching was better than Martha’s choice to keep working. Does that mean Jesus says we don’t have to do any chores? Nope, sorry! Things would get very unhealthy if we never washed dishes or took out trash. This story is more about distractions and balance. Do we talk and talk, but forget to listen? Do we worry and stress, but forget to pray? What do you do too much of? What could you do more that would be helpful?

So just like at Christmas time, lets not forget in the hustle and bustle that Jesus is right here with us at all time and we can always choose to sit and find peace in His presence.

Read the Bible Together

School Age Kids: Luke 10:38-42

Littles: Spark Story Bible page 306 or Frolic Preschool Bible page 64

Digging deeper:

I’m pretty sure that one of my dad’s number one goals was to teach me and my brothers moderation – trying to balance work, play, and rest. What do you think your parents really want you to know/believe? After you’ve given it some thought, ask them and see if your answers match!

Family Activities

Balancing Act: Using a roll of masking tape or painters tape, make a long line on the floor. Have the family take turns sharing different ideas of work, play, chores, rest and fun. Write them on the tape, then try to walk the line from end to end like a tightrope. Can you think of other ways to make a balance beam or a tension line to balance on?

String Sisters: Make Mary and Martha yarn puppets by wrapping craft sticks with yarn, dressing them with felt or bits of material, then draw a face and/or stick on eyes. (If you couldn’t make it to the drive up event last weekend, we have more kits to share – just ask us!)

Have a Christmas in July Celebration! Join in the fun of this tradition to celebrate Jesus coming into our lives halfway through the year. Bring out some decorations or toys and sing some carols and remember Jesus is with us all throughout the year!

Pray Together

Dear God, thank you for Bible stories to remind us how to live good lives. Help us keep our balance in life – some quiet, some loud, some work, some play, some time taking care of ourselves and some time taking care of others.  Bless our learning. Bless our growing. Amen.

Bless Each Other

Hold hands and sing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” to each other!
