Have fun asking question for all your family members!
This week’s story is about Jacob struggling and worrying about how to fix the big mistakes he has made. Jacob prays to God for help after he remembers that God promises to always love us and be with us. Jacob mattered to God and so do you! How do you really know that you are important to God? Because the bible says so! You are loved in God’s eyes. (Jeremiah 31:3) You are complete in God’s eyes. (Colossians 2:10) You are beautiful in God’s eyes. (Psalm 45:11) You are God’s handiwork. (Ephesians 2:10) And these are just a few samples! Never forget that God loves you and God’s love endures forever!
Dig Deeper: Have you ever had a fight with your brother or sister? Jacob did! He cheated and he lied and ran away for twenty years because he was afraid his brother would hurt him for all the bad things he had done. Before Jacob could go home again and fix his problem, he had to wrestle with God and ask God to bless him and help him. Do you wrestle with any problems? Who can you trust when you are afraid? How do you feel knowing that God has a plan for you and is always faithful?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together with supplies you have around your house!
Family Activity : Have some family fun playing around with this scripture verse: “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him.” (Psalm 145:18) You could thumb wrestle, using the verse as your intro instead of saying the traditional, “1,2,3,4, I declare a thumb war.” You could try to keep a balloon in the air while saying one word of the verse with every touch. You could bounce a ball back and forth with someone while saying one word of the verse every time the ball touches the ground. However you decide to play, the end result will hopefully be a special promise from God that you memorize and treasure!
Pray Together
“Dear God, thank you for loving us and thinking of us all as your special children. Thank you for being faithful and keeping all your promises. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Trace a heart on each other’s forehead and says, “You matter!”
