Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle saying, “Jesus is the light of the world.”

Sing Together:  Name three things you are thankful for and/or sing Thank You God for Giving Us Life.

  • Make an Offering: How can you give an offering today? It could be time, talent, or treasure!
  • Lord’s Prayer: In Grades 1-4 Faith Formation, we practice praying as Jesus taught us.

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Genesis 18:1-15, 21:6-7 or Spark Story Bible Abraham and Sarah’s Visitors

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Have any of you heard about Abraham and Sarah before? Do you know that every fall, we start over reading the Bible? Why do you think we do that? What else starts in the fall? What are some of your routines (school, bedtime, etc)? Well, many years before the story we will read today took place, God asked Abraham and Sarah to make a big move. They trusted God, and they moved. God told them that they would have many children. As I said, many years went by. Abraham and Sarah began to doubt God’s promise. Three visitors told Abraham (age 99) that now Sarah (age 89) would have a baby. What do you think Sarah did?

Dig Deeper:  So what did Sarah do? She laughed. She laughed because it seemed so silly to her that she would have a baby in her old age. Sometimes God has plans for us that we aren’t expecting. How do you react when something unexpected happens? Your feelings are valid. They matter to God. You matter to God. God will be with you through your highs and lows and every new challenge, expected or unexpected.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together with supplies you have around your house!

Activity 1: What’s In a Name? Sarah names her baby Isaac, which means “laughter.” Why? What does your name mean? You can look this up in a baby names book or on the internet. Why did your family choose your name? Ask your family about it.

Activity 2: You Matter Create a sign with the message “You matter.” You can hang it somewhere to remind yourself that you matter, and that God loves you no matter what. Or you can give it to someone else to let them know they matter.

Pray Together

“Dear God, Thank you for promising to love me no matter what. I matter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Trace a heart on each other’s forehead and says, “You matter!”
