Shine a Light: Turn on a book light or reading lamp and say, “Jesus is the light of the world!”

Giving Thanks: Sing or say: Thank you God, for giving us life. Thank you God, for giving us life. Thank you God, for giving us life. Right where we are! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Right where we are! (Add in your own ideas of things you are thankful for!)

Offering: How can you make an offering today?

Read the Bible Together

Frolic Bible Moses and the Exodus Spark Story Bible The Red Sea
Genesis Exodus 14:10-31 or “The Red Sea”

Talk About It!

Have you ever felt stuck or trapped? Or had a problem that felt like it was just too big to solve? In the bible story about Moses and the Red Sea, the Israelites felt trapped between the army that was chasing them and the water that was too deep to cross. But God was there to help. God gave Moses the power to push the water back and make a path for His people to cross to safety. You can always talk to God about your problems. Who else can you talk to when you need help?

Little Littles (great topics for toddlers): In the Frolic Bible story, Pharaoh said “NO” but God said “GO”. When do you get told “NO” and “GO”? At the end it says “You are one of God’s people.” Tell each other this.

Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): Moses was a leader because God asked him to be. He was worried that he wouldn’t have the right words or make the right decisions, but he had faith that God would help him. What do you say when people ask you to lead or try new things? Do you remember that God is always with you?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together!

Activity 1: Parting the Waters Put some water in a clear container. Sprinkle in some pepper or cinnamon or other spice that you can see floating on top of the water. Dip your finger in the water and see if it spreads the spices apart. Do they move? Do they stay apart? Mine did not. Now try adding a drop of dish soap, (like Dawn) into the water. Watch the spices separate!

Activity 2: Set the scene Talk about the shape of a pyramid- a square base with four triangles that lean in and touch at the top. Using magnet tiles or paper, try to create some. Use your pyramids to represent Egypt. Then get some toy people, dolls, stuffies, etc. and run away from Egypt to the Red Sea.

Activity 3 (for little littles): Part the Sea Take turns acting out parting the sea with towels or pillows. Say “NO” and block the way or say “Go” and part the way.

Pray Together

Dear God, thank you for showing us the way to go, even when our problems seem difficult. We know we can always talk to you and count on your love. Amen

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Part your hands like the sea and say “You arena of God’s people!”
