Sing Together: Sing a favorite lullaby or bedtime song and talk about why it’s special to you.

Make an Offering: How can you be an offering this week?

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Spark Story Bible “God Calls Samuel” pg 122
1 Samuel 3:1-10

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Today’s story is about a child in the bible. A boy named Samuel. Samuel grew up in the temple, helping the High Priest, Eli. One night, God tried to talk to Samuel but Samuel didn’t recognize God’s voice. Eli helped Samuel figure out that God was calling to him. He told Samuel to listen quietly and if God called again, say, “I’m here, Lord. Your servant is listening.” When are you a really good listener?

Dig Deeper: Do you ever think about the difference between listening and hearing? We hear all kinds of things: talking, music, TV, cars outside, wind, dogs barking, insects buzzing, etc. There are lots of times when we can hear many sounds at once. Does that make it harder to listen? Listening is when we really focus on what we hear. God wants us to really listen to the messages he sends us. That might take some quiet time or quiet space, so that God’s message doesn’t get covered up by other sounds. Where do you like to do your quiet thinking or reading?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1 – Tune in: Does your child know what a radio is? Scan through the channels on a radio in your car or house and talk about how some channels are fuzzy and some are clear. You can also talk about how each channel has a different style. The world is full of different messages. How do we choose what to listen to?

Activity 1 – Tune out: Turn off any extra noises that you can. Sit quietly for a few moments and really listen. What do you hear? Inside noises? Outside noises? How close to silence can we get?

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you for talking to children as well as grown-ups. Help us to be good listeners. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Whisper each other’s name and say “You are a blessing”
Make it into a game! Close your eyes and see if you can guess which family member is whispering!
