Talk About It!

What types of clouds are there? Which is your favorite? If you can you see some now, what do they look like? I see some now that look like seahorses!
Today is a special day in the church called All Saints Day. It’s the day we remember all those in our lives that have shared God’s love. That’s what a saint is, someone who is filled with God’s love and shares it with others. Do you know anyone like that. I do! It’s you! In your own very special way, everyday you are sharing God’s love with stuff as simple as a smile or as big as helping those in need.
So today we celebrate you and everyone who shares love with you, including people who may live far away, those that have died, and those that lived a long time before us. I like thinking of people like Moses and King David and how they chose to share God’s love so long ago that it stretches all the way to today when we read their stories.I like to think of how my grandpa would tell me stories of his parents, people I never met, and how their love for their family brought them to this country, which was the start of the family we have today. And I love to think of all your grown ups and how their love for you is shaping the awesome people you’ll grow up to be. It’s so many people that I can think of that it’s like a sky full clouds. Always there, in different shapes and colors, covering me.
That’s what the Bible verse in Hebrews is saying what sharing God’s love is like, something that will always be there and people will always comforted by. Even on bright blue sky days where there isn’t a cloud in the sky, guess what, they are still there, spread out so thin that it’s what makes the sky that color of bright blue. Cloud science is fascinating. And so are you, ever changing but always spreading God’s love. So celebrate today! That you are a saint, and you’ll always be surrounded by people sharing God’s love just like the clouds in the sky.
Dig Deeper: In worship on this day, we remember the saints in our lives that have died this past year by lighting a candle and ringing a bell when their name is read. Does your family have some you are remembering? Light and candle and ring a bell in their honor. Then share some stories of that person.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1: “Cloud of Witnesses” Art – Find a blue sheet of paper and fill it with clouds by using cotton balls or white paint. For each cloud you add, think of someone who shared love with you!
Activity 2: Make a Cloud Experiment – Click HERE for instructions on how to make a cloud in a jar!
Activity 3: Bulb Planting – We haven’t had a hard freeze yet, so that means there is still time to plant bulbs like tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. Local nurseries should still have some in stock. Plant one to remind you that God’s love never stops, even when you can’t see it just like your plant will grown underground through the winter. In the spring you’ll see it’s brilliant colors. So if someone you love has died, the best part of them lives on, all the love they gave you. And even if you can’t see them, you know that love is growing inside you and blooms time after time just like a bulb plant.

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you for all the saints in my life. Help me to be a saint and share Your love everyday. Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Look up and pick out a cloud to point to and say “Your love is like that cloud, always there to cover me!”
