Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle or light 1 candle on your Advent wreath. Today we light the candle of hope.

Sing Together:
Come and see, come and see
Light the candle of hope with me.
Come and be, come and be
Be a light of hope.

Offering: November and December children’s offerings will go to ELCA Good Gifts.

Pray together: Give thanks for three things and/or recite the Lord’s Prayer together

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Frolic Bible – Jesus is Born / Spark Story Bible – Angels Visit
John 1:1-5, 14

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Talk About It: What makes you feel hopeful? A rainbow, a sunrise? A new baby? The baby Jesus’ birth at Christmas? During the season of Advent, we celebrate and remember when God became a human, Jesus, who lived in the world with us. Jesus had a body just like us. Jesus had feelings just like us. What are some things that the little boy Jesus had to learn how to do? Sometimes Jesus felt tired, hungry, itchy, sad, wiggly, or upset. Sometimes he got owies and tummy aches. Whenever it feels hard to live in a body, we can have hope because God knows what it’s like to have a body.

Dig Deeper: Did you know that “the Word” in John 1:1-5 is a special name for Jesus? Read the passage again and replace the word “Word” with the name “Jesus.” Does this change or clarify the meaning for you? Now change the word “Word” to “love” and read the passage one more time. Knowing the presence of God’s love in the universe has always been there gives me hope.

Family Activity

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1: Yoga “Happy Baby” Our bodies get tired and sore. Yoga can restore our wellbeing. Babies (like the baby Jesus) like to lie on their backs with their bent legs in the air and grab their toes. In yoga, this natural pose is called Happy Baby. If you’d like to try some other “hopeful” poses, try poses that open the chest like Mountain Pose, Cobra Pose, and Wild Thing.

Activity 2: Advent At-Home Activities: This year’s Advent At-Home Kits will be delivered next Saturday. Click HERE to check out this sneak peak with a fun family activity game!

Pray Together

“Dear God, Thank you for giving me a strong, healthy body. Sometimes I get sick or hurt or tired, but then I remember you had a body, too. That fills me with hope. Amen.”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Hold up 1 finger and say “thanks for giving me hope!”
