Spark Story Bible – The Wisemen
Matthew 2:1-11
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
The twelve days of Christmas are over and the season of Epiphany has started. Epiphany means “to show/reveal”. Like the special star that showed the Wisemen how to find Jesus. Is it easier to find something in the dark or with the lights on? Cover your eyes and remember how hard it is to see when our sight is blocked or darkened. Then let in the light and see all the things around you!
Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): What does it mean when we say Jesus is, “the light of the world”? Or, “thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”? How does God’s word show us the way? Did you think of the Ten Commandments? They tell us good and safe ways to live. How about the Lord’s Prayer? That reminds us of God’s good plans and how we are to do our part. Let’s try one more! Look up Psalm 25:4-12. It begins with, “Teach me your ways, O Lord. Make them known to me.” What else does it say?
Family Activity
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Star Craft – Make a special star with tissue paper. Use an index card or ruler to make eight, 3 x 5 pieces of colorful tissue paper. Fold each piece into a kite shape, (or triangles if you want a simpler version). Glue the first four pieces, (one pointing up, one down, one to each side), to each other or a small piece of paper. Then add the other four pieces with the points going between the original four. Hang in a window or shine a flashlight through the tissue paper to get a special effect!
Activity 2 (great for littles): Look for the Light – look around the room your in and find how many things make light. How does the light help you? Thank God for each light. For more fun go through your whole house!
Pray Together
“Dear God, Thank you for showing us the way and reminding us to look and listen for you with our faith habits: Prayer, Worship, Reading the bible, Serving, Giving and being in community with others. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine! Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Twinkle your fingers like a star and say “shine bright!”
