Advent Family Faith Formation – Dec 19 & 20

Join us each week as a family to celebrate Jesus bringing hope, joy, peace & love into the world!

Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!

Welcome Videos

Start by picking a Welcome Video from Miss Karla for Grades 1-4
or Miss Renee for littles-Kindergartners or watch both!

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: If possible, light one candle on your Advent wreath. Say, “Jesus is the Hope of the World.”

Sing Together: Advent song (sounds like Twinkle,Twinkle, Little Star) “Advent is a time to wait. Not quite time to celebrate. Light the candles one by one. ‘Til the Advent time is done. Help us in our work and play to prepare for Christmas day.”

Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today? (One fun idea is to look up: https://goodgifts.elca.org For as little as $10, you can give a family in need a flock of chicks!)

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Spark Story Bible –   Jesus is Born pg 198
Bible –  Luke 2:15-20

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

It’s the fourth and last Sunday of Advent! We’re going to talk about choosing love. Love is a feeling, but we mostly show it with our actions. Sharing, caring, smiling, helping… whenever possible, we do those things even if we don’t always feel like it. In fact, making the kind and loving choice when you’re in a bad mood can actually help that bad mood melt away! Choosing love can be hard, but it has GREAT rewards – for us and for others! God chooses to love us all the time even though we are not perfect. That is the greatest gift ever!

Do Week 4 of the “An Illustrated Advent for Families” together! Download it HERE!

Dig Deeper into LOVE: Look up 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Talk about what the Bible says love is, and what it is not. What is your favorite part? Which part do you think is the most difficult? Talk about all the people you love and which ones you could talk to if you were having problems.

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Week 4 Activity – A treasure chest of Love: Using the materials in your bag, make a 2D treasure chest to remind you to choose love! (Use the devotion booklet instructions or watch Karla’s video to see which pieces to use and how to fold.)

Jesus Birthday card: Individually or as a family, make a card for Jesus’s birthday using prompts from the Advent wreath. (Example) Dear Jesus, Happy Birthday! I hope that ___. I feel peaceful when ___.  I bring joy to others when ____. I choose to show love by ____. Thank you for coming to earth to be with us!

Pray Together

“God of Love, Thank you for loving each one of us, no matter what. Choosing love is hard sometimes, especially when we are anxious or frustrated. Give us the courage to open our hearts and choose love. Thank you for sending Jesus to be with us always. Amen”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Tell each other “I love [something that makes that person special] about you!”
