Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle or light 3 candles on your Advent wreath. Today we light the candle of peace.

Sing Together:
Come and see, come and see, light the candle of hope with me.
Come and be, come and be, be a light of hope
sing the song again, but switch the word hope to peace and then to today’s word: JOY!

Offering: November and December children’s offerings will go to ELCA Good Gifts.

Pray together: Give thanks for three things and/or recite the Lord’s Prayer together

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

 Luke 2:8–20

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

Talk About It:  Do you like it when things go wrong? How do you react? What helps you though it? In our Children’s Christmas Musical, Away in a Mango, nothing seems to go as planned? What were some things you saw go wrong?

Today we lit the JOY advent candle. Have you ever found joy in figuring out how to fix a problem, or found that the change in plans ended up much more fun and meaningful than expected. We sure saw that in the musical story! And that’s what learn about Jesus’ birth story too. Nothing seems to go the way any of the characters planned. But because they all trusted God, they found joy even in the most unlikely circumstances. How can you find joy today even if things go wrong?

Dig Deeper: Look at a nativity set and see if you can think of something that went wrong for each character and how God helped them turn that into joy. For example, the shepherds, they just wanted to get their sheep rounded up and get a good nights sleep. Then out of no where they were greeted by angels and being told to go find a baby in a manger, NOT what they had planned. How did that turn to joy for them?

Family Activity

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Activity 1: Write a Review! Make a note of all the things you like about the musical and email or drop it off at the church to Ms Karla Reiland. The performers would LOVE to hear your kind words and appreciation!

Activity 2: Advent At-Home Activities:This year’s Advent At-Home Kits were delivered last weekend and today’s craft is a fun one! email renee@nativitychurch.org for a copy.

Pray Together

“Dear God, thank you for the excitement of Christmas! Please help us keep our to find joy even when things don’t go right. Thank you for coming to earth to be with us. Amen”

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Hold up 3 fingers and say “thanks for giving me joy!”
