Advent Family Faith Formation – Dec 5 & 6

Join us each week as a family to celebrate Jesus bringing hope, joy, peace & love into the world!

Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!

Welcome Videos

Start by picking a Welcome Video from Miss Leah for Grades 1-4
or Miss Renee for littles-Kindergartners or watch both!

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: If possible, light one candle on your Advent wreath. Say, “Jesus is the Hope of the World.”

Sing Together: Advent song (sounds like Twinkle,Twinkle, Little Star) “Advent is a time to wait. Not quite time to celebrate. Light the candles one by one. ‘Til the Advent time is done. Help us in our work and play to prepare for Christmas day.”

Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today? (One fun idea is to look up: https://goodgifts.elca.org For as little as $10, you can give a family in need a flock of chicks!)

Read the Bible Together

Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.

Spark Story Bible – Mary’s Song (in the Mary Visits Elizabeth story) pg 194
Bible – Luke 1:46-55

Talk About It!

Have fun asking question for all your family members!

What activities bring you a sense of peace? Do you like to be outside or inside? Maybe you enjoy watching the sunset or hiking by a stream. Maybe you like to cuddle up with a book or bake cookies. Maybe you pray or meditate. In our story, Mary sang a song. Singing, especially with others, can bring us peace. We hear the words and melody, and our heart rate slows down, we breathe deeply, and we feel connected to others.

Do Week 2 of the “An Illustrated Advent for Families” together! Download it HERE!

Dig Deeper into PEACE:What is your favorite Christmas song as you prepare for celebrating Jesus’ birth? Take turns sharing and, if you have time, sing each song together. How many songs can you think of that use the word peace?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.

Week 2 Activity  – Peace Lyrics Paper Chain: Using the Mary’s Song Activity Page in your Advent Kit (or download), color the words. Talk about what they mean. Then cut them into strips and link them together to form a paper chain. This is not a long chain! To make it longer, make more strips by writing out on your own paper lyrics of your favorite songs, hymns, and carols.
“Sleep in heavenly peace”
“O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie”
“Peace on earth and mercy mild”

Pray Together

Dear God, Thank you for giving us the language of music. Give us peace and remind us that we are not alone. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

Balance on 1 leg and hold each other’s shoulders, and say “Peace be with you!”
