Last week, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, a ministry partner of Nativity, opened Emerson Village, a beautiful new building that will provide stable, affordable homes to 40 families. Emerson Village was made possible through key federal housing programs like the Continuum of Care contract, which provides dollars to pay for comprehensive services for the families, and federal project-based rental assistance, which helps the families with their rent.
As one Beacon resident, Sasha, shared, “Having access to onsite services has been helpful in our healing journey. It’s nice to know someone has our backs.” These programs, along with many others that help families in supportive housing, are at risk.
Right now, Congress is debating budgets for these programs, and we need to tell our elected officials not to eliminate or cut these key funds that families depend on.

Postcard Advocacy for Affordable Housing
Let’s make sure homes like Emerson Village continue to get built. Will you add your name to protect the federal housing programs that make this work possible?
Following all worship hours this weekend, Nativity’s Homelessness & Housing Outreach Team will offer a postcard advocacy project in conjunction with other Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative faith communities.
It takes just a minute to sign a postcard sharing your support to continue federal funding of affordable housing and of supportive Housing First initiatives that provide social services for those transitioning from homelessness to stable housing. These are the kinds of services Beacon supports because they are the most impactful for successful transitions.
Thank you for your loving advocacy on behalf of our neighbors. If you’re unable to stay after worship, you can fill out and submit your postcard online at the QR code.
Earlier this month, Congress passed a sweeping budget bill they titled the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a budget that slashed funding for food assistance and Medicaid. While direct housing programs weren’t affected yet, they’re next. The Trump administration has already proposed massive cuts to the federal housing budget. The House released its FY26 housing budget in mid-July. The Senate followed up this week, and they are now negotiating the details between them.
We have a short window to make an impact. We need to raise our voices loudly and tell those who represent Minnesota in the United States Congress to push back on cuts that would eliminate or otherwise compromise key funds that families depend on.
