Dear Community, we wanted to share a joyous update with you! Since organizing more support for those with food insecurity because of recent limited SNAP funding, the generous Nativity community has gathered more than $1500, 340 pounds of food, and a few new dedicated volunteers. Additionally, as part of our Bread for the World Offering of Letters last month, Nativity members wrote and sent 100 letters to Congress urging our representatives to fund food related programs.
And this is something worth celebrating! Let me offer a shout out to each and every one of you, including, Leah Reddy with the rest of our Children Youth, and Family team for collecting over 300 pounds of that food during our recent Trunk-or-Treat event.
But food insecurity continues…. We now look to double down on our recruitment of volunteers for Little Kitchen Food Shelf. Little Kitchen is our most immediate food-focused community partner. And volunteers are the food shelf’s most pressing need at the moment—and one of the ways we can make the biggest impact to ensure everyone can access that inpouring of support.
If you would like to learn more or join an upcoming volunteer training session, please email one of our wonderful Little Kitchen Food Shelf volunteer coordinators: Tina Wyffels at twyffels@bkbm.com or Allision Woodwick at allisonwoodwick@gmail.com.
Although volunteers can begin at any time, Little Kitchen has upcoming orientation sessions to learn more about volunteering at the food shelf. All sessions are at Little Kitchen, 1500 6th St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413.
