The Global Outreach team recognizes the need to alleviate human suffering in the world and connects the Nativity community to Global Mission opportunities focusing on health care and literacy. This past year, Nativity commissioned missionaries Steve and Nancy Laible and Global Outreach volunteers have supported several key projects with both financial assistance and on-site help.
Leon Day Care in San Jose, Costa Rica
The Leon Day Care provides services to about 100 children, who are mostly from the nearby barrio of impoverished and vulnerable families living on the fringe of society. Global Outreach was the portal for raising funds needed to repair the day care roof, restore and furnish a water damaged classroom, and provide four additional toilet stalls and a handwashing station. Most of the children do not have sanitary facilities or running water in their living shelters, so they tend to rely heavily on the toilet facilities at the day care for essential daily functions.
Prosthetic Leg Project in Nepal & Bangladesh
This is a new project spearheaded by the Rotary Club in Bangladesh to provide prosthetic legs to people who could not otherwise afford it. Designated Global Outreach funds have helped support ten patients in Bangladesh who have received prosthetic legs, with twenty more from both Bangladesh and Nepal in the process of obtaining prosthetic legs to assist their mobility and daily living.
Literacy Projects & Nativity Global Scholars
Global Outreach continues to support literacy projects, including their longest running project in Bangladesh, as well as the Nativity Scholars program, which has supported students for over 20 years. Steve and Nancy Laible are currently traveling to support these projects, including four Nativity Scholars in Bhutan.
