Christmas Outreach for Youth Experiencing Homelessness

November is the month Nativity focuses on serving those experiencing homelessness. LSS Circle is once again coordinating the effort to support youth served by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.

As we have the last two years, we are asking for financial gifts only for this outreach fundraiser. Initially chosen as a safety measure during the pandemic, this approach has been very helpful to Lutheran Social Service and allowed them to direct the funds where they are most needed.

From the LSS of MN Director of Metro Homeless Youth Services:

“We were able to use the funds to purchase food and desserts from local restaurants and bakeries so that we could deliver hot holiday meals to all our youth in two of our programs that could not host holiday parties safely due to the pandemic. Youth reported how meaningful it was to have staff deliver holiday food and treats to them, so they didn’t feel so alone.

We were also able to purchase numerous gifts to serve as ‘fill-in’ items. These included slippers, books, CD’s, headphones, body wash, lotion, shaving kits, brushes/combs, cozy socks, candy, DVD’s, etc. These gifts allowed staff to ensure that youth got equitable gifts and had something to open over the holidays.

Having the support of our community and congregations made an enormous difference in bringing joy and wonder during an incredibly dark time. Words can’t possibly express how grateful we are to you and your group for your efforts to care for those most in need!”

The Nativity community’s support for the Christmas Outreach has been so appreciated in past years. Your continuing generosity will help brighten this holiday season for young people who are facing many challenges.

Please make your donations by November 20.

Donations can be made through Venmo (@NativityLutheran) mailed to the church, or included in the offering plate. Checks can be written to Nativity Lutheran Church with “LSS Christmas Youth Outreach” in the memo line.
