The Elijah-Elisha model is the model of leadership transition that Nativity has employed for transferring senior pastor leadership from Pastor Glenn to Pastor Angela over time. The model was presented during the initial call process. It is a model that has worked well in business and for other large churches with long pastorates like Nativity. The Elijah-Elisha model is found in I Kings 19:19-20 and 2 Kings 2, where we read how God instructed Elijah to find a successor to continue the ministry and how Elijah passes the mantle of leadership on Elisha. The model uses the trust and credibility of a long tenured, spiritually strong, loved leader to pass the mantle of leadership and trust onto the next spiritually strong, capable pastor.
After two years of work discerning this model and assessing Nativity’s needs for its next senior pastor, Pastor Angela LaMoore was called by the congregation and began her work March 15, 2025. Pastor Angela and Pastor Glenn, in collaboration with Nativity’s Executive Team, have discerned next steps for the continuing leadership transition and recommend the following:
On June 1, 2026: Pastor Angela will become Senior Pastor at Nativity, and Pastor Glenn will move from full time to part time status, approximately 15 hours a week. Pastor Glenn will take some time off during the summer of 2026 and will begin work as a part-time staff member on September 1, 2026. His responsibilities will primarily center on pastoral care and development/stewardship. He will also continue to do funerals at Nativity as needed.
This trajectory reflects the plan laid out for leadership transition when the call process for Pastor Angela’s position was initiated two years ago. If you have questions or would like to talk about the coming transition, you can speak with either Pastor Glenn or Pastor Angela at any time.
