Start with a Welcome Video from Miss Leah
Worship Together
Share in some faith practices of worship together!
Shine a Light: Make a light (candle, flashlight, light switch) and say, “Jesus is the light of the world!”
Sing Together: Sing the song from the video or any other song with “hosanna” in it.
Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today?
Read the Bible Together
Talk About It!
Have you been to a parade? What was it like? What were you celebrating? What did you like about the parade? Was there anything you didn’t like? Would you like to go to a parade to see Jesus? Today’s story is about people lining the streets to see Jesus. Because they waved palm branches, today we call it Palm Sunday.
Dig Deeper: This story is also called Jesus’ Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem. Why do you think that is? When people learned that Jesus was a king of peace, and that he had no plans to conquer the Romans, their opinions changed quickly. What happened to Jesus only days after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem? The shouts of “Hosanna!” turned to shouts of “Crucify him!” How can people’s opinions change so quickly? Is this fair?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Make a palm branch Use the template provided in your Lent kit (or print) to create your own palm branch. You will also need scissors, a green crayon or marker, a straw and some tape or glue.
Activity 2: Have a parade Using your palm branch and/or other festive items you may have on hand, have a parade in your home! You can play marching band music, the song from today’s video, or any other music your family enjoys. Don’t forget to shout, “Hosanna!”
Pray Together
“Dear Lord, we join our voices to welcome Jesus. Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Continue your parade and celebrate each family member and say “Hosanna! I’m so glad God made [name]!”
