Legacy Giving

LOVE COURAGEOUSLY, LIVE GENEROUSLY… now and into the future.

Nativity is part of your life and your legacy. As a community, we’ve been with you for the milestones, transitions, and celebrations of life. For over 65 years, Nativity Lutheran Church has shared the love of Jesus Christ with you and so many others through worship, faith formation, and service. Together, we do the joyous work of loving courageously and living generously.

Careful estate planning is Christian stewardship in action. Estate planning is good stewardship of all that God has provided and is a blessing to you and others. When we plan for the future, we pass on a legacy of faith to future generations, and we ensure that the ministries of Nativity Lutheran Church will be there for years to come.

Through Nativity’s Legacy Giving program, you can intentionally express your values. Nativity uses all gifts according to each donor’s documented wishes and intentions. Share your intention to include Nativity in your will or estate plan HERE.

Your Plan, Your Choice

People who die without a will or a plan leave their estate to be divided according to the laws in the state where they live—laws that don’t necessarily align with their values or priorities. But with your estate and charitable plans in place, you have the opportunity to…

• Extend your love, care, generosity and gratitude to family, loved ones and the ministries you care about;

• May protect some of your assets and even increase your income while supporting this ministry;

• May enjoy beneficial tax deductions because of the charitable gifts made through your will or estate plans; and

• Make it possible for Nativity to be there for future generations.

Since estate laws differ from state to state, and change from time to time, it is very important that you seek competent legal counsel before finalizing your estate plan.

Creative Ways to Give:

  • What Is a Qualified Charitable Contribution? (See video below)
  • What Is a Donor Advised Fund? (See video below)

The resources provided here are shared with permission by Thrivent Charitable.

What Is a Qualified Charitable Contribution?

Many people have IRAs as part of their retirement savings. Beginning at the age of 73, those who have IRAs are required to take minimum distributions. However, not everyone needs the money from that distribution, which may raise the amount of money a person will owe in taxes each year.

Setting up a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows many people to meet their IRA requirement while 1) lowering their tax bill and 2) supporting a valued charitable organization.

What Is a Donor Advised Fund?

Donor advised funds can offer a tax-smart investment solution for charitable giving. These accounts accept cash and securities, while the most preferable option is appreciated securities that have been held in an appropriate account for at least one year.

When a donor advised fund is used, a defined set of investment options can be utilized before the owner donates the proceeds to a verified non-profit organization. Once donated, a current year tax deduction is received and capital gains taxes may be reduced and minimized.

Donor advised funds can be beneficial for philanthropic minded individuals that seek innovative tax strategies for monies that are earmarked and ultimately given to not-for-profit organizations.

Thrivent Charitable, a public charity, makes it easy for anyone to give to the causes they cherish through personalized, flexible giving solutions. Donors can choose from a variety of charitable fund options matching their interests, values, and financial goals—whether they wish to advise grants, designate automatic annual gifts, create scholarships, or support specific causes like Nativity and its endowment funds. Gifts can be made using a wide range of assets, including cash, real estate, qualified charitable distributions, and even livestock. With expert one-on-one consulting for financial advisors, donors and nonprofits, Thrivent Charitable tailors charitable plans to maximize impact, now and in the future.
