The Global Outreach team recognizes the need to alleviate human suffering in the world and connects the Nativity Community to Global Mission opportunities focusing on health care and literacy. During Global Outreach Month, Nativity also collaborates with international organizations focused on alleviating hunger around the world.
“Days for Girls” Presentation & Service Project
October 15, 12:30-2:30 pm | Commons
For Global Outreach Month in October, the Global Outreach Team is collaborating with the LSS Circle for a program and service project. Nancy Laible will lead the program, which includes an overview of the female hygiene kit program at Nativity. Nancy will also report on recent kit delivery projects in Cuba and Costa Rica. Attendees will have the opportunity to help prepare components for the hygiene kits that will be part of a delivery to Kenya this winter. Funding for project supplies is provided, in part, by Thrivent Financial. Please contact Nancy Laible at njlaible@mac.com to register or for more information.
2025 Highlights from Global Ministry
In addition to supporting the creation and distribution of female hygiene kits, Nativity commissioned missionaries Steve and Nancy Laible and Global Outreach volunteers have supported several key projects with both financial assistance and on-site help.
Support for Costa Rica Daycare Facilities
Nativity Global Outreach awarded a $10,000 grant to daycare projects. Funds for a Santa Cruz daycare provided educational toys, equipment, and supplies as well as food for 36 children over the next two months and facility improvements. Funds for another daycare in San Jose supported staff training and daycare programming.
Outdoor Kitchen + Covered Dining in Costa Rica
Global Outreach supported the construction of an outdoor kitchen area and covered dining area at Camp Penuel to serve hundreds of campers who come from the poorer areas of San Jose.
School Desks for Kenya
Nativity Global Outreach has engaged in various literacy and humanitarian projects in Kenya for the past few years. The most recent project assisted a primary school in Nairobi that has 2800 students crowded into 25 classrooms, some bursting with 100 or more students. The collaborative project provided 100 desks and benches for the school.
Help for Our Long-Time Administrator of Nativity Scholars
In 2024, government chaos in Bangladesh resulted in Christian Vestergaard, the in-country administrator of the Nativity Scholars program, and other NGO workers losing their visa status and being forced to leave the country. Nativity awarded Christian a grant to help with expenses related to the mandatory exit and later return. Christian extends his gratitude for the financial support. The LAMB School students are now happy to have their favorite teacher back in Bangladesh.
Congratulations to Nativity Scholar Roy Rusho
Roy Rusho and his sister were admitted to the Nativity Scholars program 20 years ago when their father died in a traffic accident, leaving their mother to raise two young children. One year into the program, the sister died in a tragic drowning accident during flood season. Rusho persevered with financial help from the Nativity Scholars program. Rusho has now earned a bachelor’s degree in Ag Science and is studying for a master’s degree in animal genetics. In 2025, Rusho was awarded a National Science & Technology Fellowship in Bangladesh, an award similar in prestige to the U.S. Rhodes Scholarship. Rusho sends his gratitude for Nativity’s support of his education.
