Spark Bible: Mustard Seed / Matthew 13:31-32; Matthew 17:20
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
When Jesus talks about faith as small as a mustard seed being able to move a mountain, he wasn’t really talking about seeds or trees or mountains! He was speaking in a story form called a PARABLE. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. Jesus used parables often. Do you know any other parables? What do you think the parable of the mustard seed means?
Dig Deeper: Let’s think about some examples of how God can take something small and create something great. Complete these sentences:
- A Bible study with a few friends becomes…
- A few minutes of prayer each day becomes…
- A letter to a friend becomes…
- A small act of kindness becomes…
- A meaningful compliment becomes…
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Life Cycle of a Plant Talk about the amazing life cycle of a plant. Tiny seeds become flowers, fruits and towering trees. Look through a seed catalog and/or watch a short video. This short, colorful video explains the plant life cycle briefly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcSgaUBwIn4
Activity 2: Make Valentines Using materials in your home, create Valentines for family, friends and neighbors. Who might not get a Valentine? Could you make one for them? Here are some Bible verses you could include on your Valentines.
- Put on love. Colossians 3:14
- Love one another. John 13:34
- Love is patient. 1 Corinthians 13:4
“Dear God, you can take something small and make it great. A seed becomes a tree. An act of kindness becomes an endless ripple. Help us to sow love like seeds. Amen.“
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Make your heads look like growing like a plant and say “Your love is like a seed!”
