Nativity is a loving community where kids and their families can practice faith habits like prayer, worship, Bible study, giving and service to others. Nativity partners with parents to nurture faith by encouraging kids to love God and love our neighbor.
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-40 NIV
What to expect:
Faith Formation Grades 1-4 meets during worship on Saturdays at 5:30, Sundays at 9:00, 10:30 and 10:40 a.m. from Sept. to mid-May. Kids begin in worship with their parents until the pastor calls the children forward for“Time with Children.” After the “Time with Children,” parents bring their kids downstairs to Room 117. We begin with a worship time, and each grade has something to do! We take an offering, sing, have a small-group prayer and then join together in the Lord’s Prayer. Kids then separate by age groups into different activities based on the Bible story (or we may stay all together and work on a service project). Activities may be art projects, drama, Bible study (for grades 3-4), puppets or games.
Parents and other adults support Faith Formation Grades 1-4 by being Faith Coaches (small group leaders for a grade) or Workshop Guides (directing a craft or activity) for a 2-3 month session during the school year.

Why do we have faith formation classes?
Classes at Nativity provide a Christian community for children where faith habits like prayer, worship, Bible study, giving and service can be practiced. Parents, remember that faith is caught, not taught and YOUR role is the most important!
What are faith formation classes like?
We start all together where we sing, have an offering, do a group prayer with our class and then say the Lord’s Prayer. We find out about our Bible story and remember what we did last week!
Groups move to another room where we learn about our Bible story in different ways: by using computers, acting out the story with costumes, playing a game, seeing a video, creating an art project, studying the story in the Bible or baking. Each week we rotate to a new workshop centered around our Bible story. Sometimes grade groups are divided into 2 or 3 sections to keep class sizes small.
Why should my child attend each week?
Regular attendance allows the students to form lasting friendships in class and helps them feel like they are an important part of our Christian community. Encouraging coming to class each week lets your student know that YOU think this is an important thing in their lives.
Who teaches the classes?
Parents and other adults. Youth helpers assist.
