Fall Family Faith Formation – Oct 24 & 25
HAPPY REFORMATION SUNDAY!
Join us each week as a family to have fun together with God’s great stories!
Pick from watching our Welcome Videos, Worship Together, Reading the Bible, Talk About It, Family Activities, Pray Together and Bless Each Other – or do them all!
Start by picking a Welcome Video from Miss Karla for Grades 1-4
or Miss Renee for littles-Kindergartners or watch both!
Share in some faith practices of worship together!
Shine a Light: Light a candle or find a flashlight. Take turns saying, “Jesus is the light of the world!”
Sing Together: The B-I-B-L-E, yes that’s the book for me. I stand alone on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E!
Make an Offering: How will you make an offering today? An offering is not always money. You can also offer your time, support, or creativity to improve the lives of others.
Littles Sing Together: Watch the Welcome Video to learn a new verse to our God’s Love song!
Read the Bible Together
Read this week’s God’s Great Story in the children’s Bible for you child’s age.
Ask your grown ups “How do you read the Bible?” Whether it is a family Bible, an app on your phone, or googling online, work together to look up these verses of God’s special promises we celebrate on Reformation Sunday: John 1:17 and Ephesians 2:8
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
Does God’s love cost us anything? Do we have to do anything to earn it? No! GOD LOVES US ALL THE TIME FREELY!
Does God love us when we make mistakes? How about when we get mad? Yes! GOD LOVES US ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT!
These are God’s promises we celebrate on Reformation Sunday. Over 500 years ago, there were people saying we had to buy God’s love and if you made a mistake you had to do A LOT to earn it back. Martin Luther stood up to those people and that began the movement called the Reformation and started the Lutheran Church. Centuries later, our church, Nativity Lutheran, proudly continues to stands on those promises.
I like teaching the song by Karyn Henley that says, “ God will never stop, never stop loving me. Whatever I may do, wherever I may be, God will never stop, never stop loving me!” It feels great to know that God is always there to offer us love, forgiveness, and salvation!
Dig Deeper: Another important idea that started the Lutheran church, (about 500 years ago), was the idea that it was good for everyone to read the Bible. Before that, only the top leaders could read the Bible because it was written in a different language, in Latin. Can you imagine going to church and everything the pastor said was in a different language? Would you understand that God loves and forgives and saves us?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1 – Color Luther’s Rose: In your drive-thru bag or the links below, you can find and color Luther’s special seal. The black cross on a red heart, on a white rose, on a field of blue, encircled by a gold ring.
Activity 2 – Seek and Ye Shall Find: Use the maps in the back of your Bible (or Google one) to play the “Alphabet Game”! Look at the names of the countries, cities, bodies of water, etc. to try and find every letter of the alphabet. Anything on the map is fair game! Many of the names look difficult to pronounce. Make a point of finding some names you recognize – Bethlehem, Egypt, etc. You may also notice some names that we use in our country today – I was very surprised to find Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Memphis on the other side of the world in ancient times!
“Dear God, Thank you for sharing your forever love with everyone and giving your words in the Bible to everyone. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Give each other a hug and say “Thank you for teaching me that God loves me!”
