DESCRIPTION:This 6 week evening series is offered each fall and spring at various churches in our area. The sessions are once a week from 6:45-9:00 PM. The fall series begins in person\, Monday\, September 13th at St. Philips Lutheran Church in Fridley. The series ends on October 18th. You can attend all or just some of the sessions. The format includes a presentation on an aspect of the grieving process\, followed by small group sessions with people of similar losses such as loss of a spouse\, parent\, friend\, relationship. I highly recommend this series. There is no cost\, but donations are accepted. DESCRIPTION:May is National Mental Health Awareness Month\nEducation is a critical component to eliminating the stigma and supporting all who struggle with mental health.\nGrace Lutheran Church is inviting the Nativity Lutheran community to these special training classes conducted by the dynamic and entertaining Chris Shaw of the Heart and Mind Connection. \nSuicide Prevention (QPR) – Sunday\, May 2\, 1:00-2:30 PM in the Grace Lutheran sanctuary\nQPR – Question\, Persuade\, and Refer – are the three steps anyone can take to help prevent a suicide. Just like CPR\, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. Chaplain Jenny Schroedel\, bereavement specialist from Optage Hospice\, Presbyterian Homes & Services will reflect with us on the ground we’ve traveled and offer concrete suggestions for finding hope\, purpose and a path forward in uncertain times. \nJenny Schroedel is a chaplain with Optage Hospice (Presbyterian Homes & Services). She offers grief support and education across sites and in the community. She is also an author\, most recently of Naming The Child: Hope-filled Reflections on Stillbirth\, Miscarriage and Infant Death. While living in Hawaii\, she worked as Director of Bereavement Services for Hospice of Kona\, where she helped found Hospice of Kona’s Maluihi Grief Center. DESCRIPTION:Growing Through Loss\, is weekly grief support sponsored by a group of churches that includes Nativity. Each session includes a presentation on some aspect of the grieving process followed by group sessions. Each person is placed in a group appropriate to their loss. The groups include loss of: a spouse\, child\, parent or grandparent\, sibling\, and friend. Groups are available for people who lost someone through suicide\, divorce/separation\, or transitional losses (job\, financial set back\, a move\, empty nest). This series will be held at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Shoreview from 6:45-9:30 PM Thursday evenings September 10th through October 15th. DESCRIPTION:Mental Health Connect in partnership with NAMI MN (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is offering a 50 minute presentation designed for middle and high school students that includes warning signs\, facts and statistics\, and how to get help for themselves and friends. Lara will talk about the education of music therapists and the types of interventions she uses with dementia residents. She will also share about music at the end of a person’s life\, both for the recipient and the family. Lara holds an MA and is a Board Certified Music Therapist.\nNo need to register. Just come.
