An event every week that begins at 9:30am on Thursday, repeating until December 7, 2017
Beginning October 12, the Thursday Morning Book group will be reading “The Rebirthing of God: Christianity’s Struggle for New Beginnings” by John Phillip Newell (endorsed by Marcus Borg, Rob Bell and Richard Rohr). Discussions for this book will continue October 12 through December 7 on Thursdays, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
John Philip Newell, internationally acclaimed teacher, retreat leader and speaker, is the widely read author of several books. Formerly warden of Iona Abbey in the Western Isles of Scotland, he is now companion theologian for the American Spirituality Center of Casa del Sol at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico and the co-founder of Heartbeat: A Journey Towards Earth’s Wellbeing.
In this book, Newell invites us to reconnect with these eight things: the earth, compassion, the light, the journey, spiritual practice, non-violence, the unconscious and love. “The walls of Western Christianity are collapsing…What is the new thing that is trying to emerge from deep within us and from deep within the collective soul of Christianity?” (from the introduction) He “offers a path to the future, while retaining the heart of the gospel.” Please join us as we read and discuss this book.
Books can be purchased through Nativity for $11:50. Please pick them up and pay at the Information Desk or in the Office. If you have questions contact Jules Bonde.
