Presenter: Karen Weiberg. Karen will present an introduction to micro finance - the concept of loaning small amounts of money to entrepreneurs in poverty at what is considered reasonable interest rates. As a recent article in Time magazine states, the poor are very good risks, as they are highly motivated to succeed and grow their business, improving life for their children. Karen (a member of Nativity) heard Professor Mohammed Yunas speak in March, 2008 at the Nobel Prize Conference and along with Tori Setterholm formed the Nativity Cares Microfinance Group. |
