The Adventure Starts HERE:
For years now, NYIA (Nativity Youth in Action) has been dedicating a week each summer to serving people and God through a mission trip. Then2012 summer will be no different as NYIA heads to Wind River, Wyoming to make a difference in people’s lives and to be transformed by the people we meet. God is good, and living into God’s goodness is serving others and being motivated by God’s love for all.
This year’s location, The Wind River Reservation, will be a great adventureand challenge. This area is home to both the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes as well as others. It is a beautiful area. From mountain peaks, meadows and alpine streams, the natural beauty of the land is unsurpassed. Despite the beauty of the land, residents of these communities face many social and economic challenges including poverty, unemployment (70-80% of the population) and drug abuse. While many people struggle to make a decent living on the reservation, they are resilient and kind. We can be a part of the hope that those who are struggling, by painting and weatherizing homes, to reaching out to the local children and elderly residents.
