Growing In Faith at Nativity

Nativity's vision is to be a center for spiritual growth, intentional about our mission by equipping each person to reach out as a missionary. A missionary is a person who uses the common everyday experience of culture to help others know Jesus Christ and God's love.

Read on to find out how Nativity is making a difference in people's lives:

"When I joined Nativity in 1993, I soon began helping out with the 3 year olds in Faith Formation at the invitation of Janet P. I have been with it ever since. I am now a shepherd with the 5th graders and plan to continue doing that for a few more years.

I took the "You Can Make A Difference" workshop in 2000 and began using my serving gifts by setting up communion for Saturday evening worship. Then I began setting up communion and ushering on Sundays. I also like to help during special services and whenever I see a need arise.

I began to have more confidence in using my gifts. I became a "One by One" Tutor, helping northeast child during the school year with math and reading.

In taking the covenant member sessions my eyes have been opened to new things I can do. I am also not as afraid to tell others about Jesus and my faith.

I was commissioned as a missionary in 2007 to use my gifts with children and hospitality. It also means to me to be ready to respond when I am moved by the Spirit to go out and help where I am needed. I am now on the committee of the Relay for Life in St. Anthony.

I feel that most of my life I was hiding, keeping inside my shell. I am amazed that now I can do things because of the people and opportunities that have given me confidence. I see God working through me and God's hand guiding me.

"I feel that it has been a real privilege to be one of Nativity's covenant members and being a part of the various classes that led to the Commissioned Missionary status was so confirming to my faith journey. My faith is so much stronger now and I feel much more committed to the works that I do, not only for Nativity, but for the community at large. I have become an active member of the church faith community by being a member of a small couples group that meets monthly, by setting up the elements for communion once a month, by helping with "The Gathering" twice a month and by also attending a Bible study once a week. This has all been a direct result of becoming commissioned and praying for the Holy Spirit to lead me. I have also found that it is easier to share my faith story not only with my small group, but also with my family and friends. The "Journey" continues and I look forward to where it will take me next."
"New to Nativity, 3 years ago, I took the class "You Can Make A Difference". Honestly, my wife Denise dragged me. As the class went on, I learned a lot about myself and where I was at with my faith. I also have met and made many new friends. I became a Covenant Member of Nativity and also a Commissioned Missionary. It enabled me to openly talk about my beliefs and faith to my adult children. This is something I didn't feel equipped to do in the past. I believe I have planted the seed with many of our children and also with their friends. Weekly worship has become an important part of my life and I find myself looking forward to attending the services at Nativity. I feel I'm now a part of the community of Nativity and have more direction with my faith life."
