Nativity's Core Scriptures, Beliefs and Values
Scripture
Gospel of Matthew 22:37-40
"'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
Gospel of Matthew 28:19-20
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Beliefs
Nativity Lutheran Church believes and teaches:
- God is creator of all things and continues to be active in creation.
- God's truth for us is revealed in the Holy Bible.
- God became human in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, who lived, died, and rose again that all people might know the transforming power of God's love.
- God created the community of the church and blessed it with the Holy Spirit to help people become more like Jesus.
- God transforms lives and as we live lives of disciplined discipleship we discover and become the person God wants us to be. As disciplined disciples (followers of Jesus) we live Christ-Centered, Purpose Balanced Lives. To do this we will:
a. Worship God;
b. Serve others;
c. Learn more about what it means to be a disciple;
d. Support others who want to be disciples; and
e. Invite others into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ.
- God came into the world as Jesus to help us to know and trust God more completely.
- Jesus invites us to now him and God better by using the faith habits of prayer, worship, reading the Bible, serving, relating to other disciples, and giving.
Summary of our beliefs as recorded in Nativity's Constitution.

- This congregation confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.
- This congregation accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.
- This congregation accepts the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this congregation.
- This congregation accepts the Unaltered Augsburg Confession as a true witness to the Gospel, acknowledging as one with it in faith and doctrine all churches that likewise accept the teachings of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession.
- This congregation accepts the other confessional writings in the Book of Concord, namely the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles and the Treatise, the Small Catechism, the Large Catechism, and the Formula of Concord, as further valid interpretations of the faith of the church.
